Expression of Interest for Steering Committee Membership for Priority Population Representatives 

The Northern Sydney Suicide Prevention Collaborative (the Collaborative) is dedicated to reducing the incidence and impact of suicide across our community by fostering a culture of care, collaboration, and innovation. We believe in the power of collective action and shared responsibility, promoting mental health and wellbeing through community-driven efforts.

Statement of Purpose

Our vision is a community where everyone has timely access to the support they need, tailored to their individual circumstances. We aim to be a leader in community-based suicide prevention by facilitating innovative and effective initiatives that enhance the accessibility and quality of both preventative and postvention support. We work to ensure that our efforts are geographically relevant and respectful of the unique needs and contexts within the Northern Sydney region’s local government areas.

Call for Nominations

Understanding that certain communities face unique challenges and may benefit from tailored suicide prevention strategies, we are seeking representation from the following communities:

  1. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People
  2. LGBTQIA+ people
  3. Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) people

Roles and Responsibilities

Steering Committee members are expected to:

  • Offer strategic direction and governance for the Collaborative’s initiatives.
  • Advocate for inclusive and culturally sensitive suicide prevention practices.
  • Engage actively in decision-making processes to guide our projects and initiatives.
  • Effectively represent the interests and perspectives of their communities.

Nominee Requirements:

  • A strong connection to and understanding of the community they represent.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to mental health and suicide prevention.
  • Experience in leadership roles or community engagement.

Selection Process
Nominations will be evaluated based on alignment with the Collaborative’s objectives, the nominee’s experience, and the potential impact of their contributions. We aim to enrich our Steering Committee with diverse perspectives that reflect and address the unique challenges and needs of our priority groups.

We value your interest and contributions, and we are eager to see how your involvement can help shape a more inclusive and effective approach to suicide prevention in our community.
