The last months of life: end of life care support
Wed 12th March @ 6:00 pm
FreeTHIS EVENT IS FULLY BOOKED
General Practitioners are increasingly providing palliative care and end of life care support as our population ages. GPs can feel a lack of confidence in managing patients at end of life due to lack of training. This education event aims to provide an update on:
- supports available in the community including community palliative care, Northern Sydney Home Nursing Service, Hospital in the Home, Navigator service, Caring Communities, care packages
- update on end of life symptom management
- update on Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) and the interface with community services, paperwork at end of life (including VOD/MCCD/cremation paperwork update/coroners requirements)
- Review of opioids used at the end of life, and rules and regulations around their use
- challenges of prognostication in malignant and non-malignant disease
This event will be held at the NSLHD Adolescent and Young Adult Hospice (AYAH) and will also include a panel discussion with GPs, Northern Sydney Home Nursing representative and palliative care representative on how we can best work together to provide optimal care for our patients.
