Join us for an engaging and informative session exploring alcohol and other drug use, dependence, and the treatment options available. This interactive presentation is led by an experienced Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) clinician and is designed to add to your understanding of substance-related issues in nursing practice.

SPEAKERS:

Melise Ammit – DANA Credentialled Drug & Alcohol Nurse working within the Northern Sydney Local Health District D&A

Melise Ammit is a DANA Credentialled Drug & Alcohol Nurse working within the Northern Sydney Local Health District D&A service in both inpatient consultation liaison and outpatient nurse-led alcohol clinics at Brookvale and Royal North Shore Hospital.

In addition to her clinical role, Melise is a casual academic at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) where she is also a PhD candidate. Her research focuses on exploring factors that facilitate treatment access for women with alcohol use disorders with the aim to bridge gaps between research and actual clinical realities for women with AUD.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

Practice Nurses working in the Sydney North Health Network region

LEARNING OUTCOMES:
  • Describe government policy and the harm reduction approach to alcohol and other drug (AOD) use.
  • Analyse the impact of AOD use on individuals, families, and communities.
  • Identify evidence-based treatment options and appropriate referral pathways.
  • Demonstrate the ability to conduct an opportunistic intervention
COST:
There is no cost for Practice Nurses within the SNHN region to attend this training
