Webinar: Diagnosis and treatment guidelines for Asthma and COPD

Asthma and COPD are common conditions identified and managed in primary care. This webinar will provide an overview of case definition and spirometric diagnosis.

There has been a dramatic increase in the number of respiratory inhalers, which can be confusing. This education webinar will provide an overview of asthma and COPD guidelines to assist in the appropriate prescription of respiratory inhalers. It will discuss respiratory inhalers and their impact on climate change and will discuss low carbon footprint respiratory care, including safe disposal of inhalers.

SPEAKERS:

Dr Sophie Timmins, Respiratory and Sleep Medicine Physician
MB BS PhD FRACP
Dr Timmins is a Staff Specialist at Royal North Shore Hospital and is in private practice at the Sleep and Breathing Specialist Centre.  Sophie has a PhD from the University of Sydney in the clinical uses of alternative lung function tests in COPD.

Dr Katrina Tonga, Respiratory and Sleep Medicine Physician
MBChB PhD FRACP
Dr Tonga is a Staff Specialist at St Vincent’s Hospital and is in private practice at the Sleep and Breath Specialist Centre.  Katrina is a medical education lecturer at the Northern Clinical School,  USyd and has a PhD from the University of Sydney in small airway function and inflammation in asthma.  Katrina’s interests include airways disease, general respiratory medicine, and obstructive sleep apnoea.

Melissa Batger, Pharmacist
Melissa is a Senior Pharmacist at Royal North Shore Hospital and is the Cancer Care Leader Clinical Pharmacist.  Melissa works closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure medication safety of all patients attending RNSH Cancer Care center.

Speakers are Net Zero Respiratory Leads with the Northern Sydney Local Health District, working to reduce the carbon impact of the health sector’.

There is no cost for Practices and their staff within the SNHN region to attend this training
