The outputs of the Strengthening Medicare Task Force and subsequent reform and investments announced by the Federal Government in 2023 have brought an extra dimension to the work of general practice. Aspects of this include efforts to increase access to primary care\, encouragement of multi-disciplinary team-based approaches\, workforce reform\, and the introduction of MyMedicare and voluntary patient registration. All of these potentially carry the need for change within the practice team.

SUMMARY:Ageing Well Tool - Dementia risk factor screening in General Practice
DESCRIPTION:This project aims to develop a novel primary care screening tool\, the Ageing Well Tool\, to detect common mental disorders and risk factors for dementia\, such as depression\, social isolation\, and cardiovascular risk in older adults. Following screening\, GPs may plan some evidence-based risk reduction strategies with patients as needed. \nWhat’s involved?\nThe cluster randomised clinical trial will involve GPs and practice nurse(s) completing training on the study methods\, identifying suitable patients\, facilitating the collection of patient data against a range of risk factors\, and completing data about eligible patients three times over a 12-month period. \nWho will be screened?\nPatients must be 60-70 years old and a patient of a General Practitioner in SNHN. SUMMARY:WEBINAR: Reducing alcohol-related harm in general practice
DESCRIPTION:General practice consultations provide an opportunity to deliver brief interventions to patients to reduce weekly alcohol consumption. \nAttendees will learn the scope of strategies that can be used in general practice\, tools that can be used by GPs to support these strategies\, and how to incorporate brief interventions into daily practice. We will also hear from the SDECC and Odyessey House to better understand local referral pathways. \nYou will be introduced to the REACH (Reducing Alcohol-Related Harm in General Practice) project and tools\, developed by Monash University. The REACH project supports GPs\, nurses and other healthcare professionals to talk to their patients about alcohol use.  The REACH team has developed a package of practical\, evidence-based and informative resources with input from GPs\, nurses and community members. DESCRIPTION:The  National IAR Guidance and  IAR-DST were developed by the Australian Department of Health and is designed to provide: \n– Advice relating to initial assessment and intake (the eight domains).\n– A description of evidence-based services by level of intensity (the five levels of care).\n– Criteria to assist with matching an individual to a level of care that is most likely to meet the individual’s treatment needs and recovery goals (the IAR-DST). \nRemuneration: General Practitioners are eligible for a reimbursement payment of $300.00 exc GST for successful completion of training*\n*Limited funding is available for GP remuneration for one attendance only. DESCRIPTION:Sydney North Health Network (SNHN) invite local GPs\, Practice Nurses\, Practice staff\, Pharmacists and Allied Health Professionals to a Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) workshop.  This workshop consists of 2 hours face-to-face training plus a short multiple choice online learning module to be completed prior to attending the face-to-face training.  It will be delivered by ReVIVA First Aid and Resuscitation Training as a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) – RTO # 90176.  As such\, you will be required to provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI). Create or check your USI at https://www.usi.gov.au/students/get-a-usi \nIMPORTANT NOTE: A mandatory requirement for the practical assessment is to perform a minimum of two minutes of continuous CPR kneeling alongside an adult manikin placed on the floor.
