Digital Health – Secure Messaging

Health information is now being securely shared digitally between healthcare providers across the primary, acute and community care sectors.

This information includes

  • coordinated care plans
  • referrals
  • discharge summaries
  • specialist letters
  • pathology
  • diagnostic imaging results.

Secure Messaging software offers point-to-point sharing of encrypted clinical data. This enables confidentiality of patient records and improves the quality of information flow. It can also significantly reduce overheads related to printing, faxing, mailing and scanning of referrals.

From Jun 2025, only eReferrals accepted for all NSLHD outpatient clinics

NSLHD is transitioning to electronic referrals for outpatient services by GPs/referrers via secure messaging (HealthLink SmartForms sent through practice software). Fax, email or mail will no longer be accepted.

HealthLink eReferrals are available in major practice software such as Best Practice, Medical Director, Zedmed, Clinic to Cloud and Genie. If you are not using practice software, it is also available via a secure web portal called MyHealthLink.
